Description
An Austrian Empire-style open bookcase of exceptional quality, made around 1820. Its elegant proportions, clean Classicist lines, and meticulously crafted details reflect the high standard of furniture craftsmanship of the era.
The most distinctive features of this piece of furniture are the lyre-shaped side supports, which are connected by ebonized columns. The natural grain of the walnut wood blends harmoniously with the carved and gilded decorative elements, while the lion’s-paw-shaped legs further enhance the monumental appearance characteristic of the Empire style.
In the first half of the 19th century, these open bookshelves were important pieces of furniture in castles, reception rooms, and library rooms. They not only served to display books and decorative objects, but also reflected their owners’ erudition, social status, and refined taste.
A piece of furniture that is rarely seen today and holds significant value for collectors, offering a distinctive look in both classic and modern interiors.
